Acoustic testing is an important part of certification for telecoms equipment. Using a variety of methods to characterize sound quality and volume, Element’s acoustic testing services are designed to meet the requirements of markets around the globe.

Element provides testing for both regulatory and conformance requirements of telecom equipment. We can test a range of telecom network product types, including hands-free equipment (conference telephones), modern headsets, head-worn headsets and in-ear headsets.

Our telecom testing lab is outfitted with a Head and Torso Simulator (HATS) and fully anechoic chamber, allowing us to perform acoustic performance and voice quality assessments on wired PSTN/ISDN telephones, as well as DECT, VoIP and GSM products.

Element’s Telecom Acoustic Testing Services

We support manufacturers looking to gain entry into global markets with a range of performance and regulatory standards. Some of the acoustic testing we perform includes:

  • Sending and Receiving frequency responses

  • Send loudness rating (SLR) and receive loudness rating (RLR)

  • Sidetone masking rating (STMR)

  • Distortion testing

  • Acoustic shock testing

In addition to these services, we provide noise emission testing aimed at ensuring the health and safety of end users of telecom equipment. We regularly test to ITU-T P.862 and ITU-T P.800, as well as a variety of industry and organizational standards. For handheld devices, we can also provide SAR testing to measure the effect of RF emissions on the human body.

Radio Risk Assessment - Radio Equipment Directive (RED) Technical Documentation

The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) requires equipment manufacturers to perform an assessment of their product to essential requirements: safety, EMC, and radio, and in some cases, other categories may also apply. Most manufacturers understand this to mean that they test to some standards and then create their Declaration of Conformity (DoC) to show that they meet the Directive. READ MORE

How to Ensure Regulatory Compliance for your Electronic and Radio Products

Before any digital electronic or radio enabled product can be placed on the market, it must be assessed to ensure it meets the relevant regulatory compliance requirements. These requirements vary per region but may include topics such as product safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), radio performance, radio system efficiency, and interoperation with other services.
